Meet Sam
Student Therapist (She/Her)
Hi! And thank you so much for being here. As a queer Filipina immigrant, I truly understand how complex the experiences of both the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities can be. I know what it feels like to be torn between your true self and all the roles you are expected to play—in your community and in the eyes of your parents, siblings, friends, or partner. We all grew up with templates that taught us how we should act to feel accepted and valued, but sometimes those expectations don’t align with who we truly are or who we want to be.
My commitment to mental health is deeply influenced by the Filipino value of Kapwa. Kapwa emphasizes togetherness and the idea that we are all connected, no matter who we are. It is about understanding that even though we may struggle alone, we can heal together by sharing our lived experiences: “Shared joy is double joy, shared sorrow is half a sorrow.” Kapwa allows us to be with each other through our losses and grief, as well as through our love and sense of belonging.
In my work, I combine this understanding of interconnectedness with practical tools to help you cultivate self-compassion, which can lead to greater clarity in how we understand ourselves, our relationships, and the unique challenges we face. I specialize in guiding individuals in their personal growth, identity exploration, and navigating the tension between societal expectations and personal truth. My goal is to create a space where you can show up as your authentic self—exactly as you are.
Outside of my professional life, I believe that the arts keep us alive. I love writing, reading, and watching films that capture the boundless nuance and complexity of our experiences. I believe that we are born storytellers—and the stories we tell ourselves become our realities.
If you’re looking for support in navigating your own journey or simply need someone who understands, I’m here to listen wholeheartedly and walk alongside you. No matter who you are or where you come from, you are welcome here. Come as you are.
